"Nessmuck" packs alot of plain, easy to understand, and best of all sound knowledge. It's small and light enough to pack. I had heard that this was at one time considered the bible of camping guides. I enjoyed the read and learned alot. It should probably be in every camper and outdoorsman's library. I ordered it and it came in looking suprisingly short. I started reading it skeptically and found it to be really entertaining and full of good info.
would buy from this seller again. the book was received very quickly and efficiently. the book was in excellent condition when i received it.
LOLShawn A. Proof positive you dont need high tech gadgets to have a safe and enjoyable time in the outdoors. I use very similar equipment to this day on my trips to the woods~.~ Oh.dont be fooled, the price of a canoe has gone up. This book is a classic Adirondack outdoor skills book that really puts you into the mood to be out in the woods. Merritthttp://www.woodlandsurvival.com My copy is in tatters and I had to buy a new one. In fact, I carry it with me into the woods on a regular basis. The information on what to carry, how to's and so on are as true today as they were when the book was written.
This book is around 100 years old, so its not exactly up-to-date on gear and supplies. Great old school camping/survival book. This isn't the only book I would buy, but it is a must for a collection. It is a great book that covers the basics and philosophy of hiking and camping. However, it may not be for everyone. If you want a hard core survival book, or something to help you choose gear, this isn't the right book.
But you can no longer start a campsite by cutting down a half-dozen trees. "Nessmuk" wrote for an era when much of the lower 48 was still wilderness, and his writings are an entertaining time machine trip to a long-gone era. Myself, I enjoyed reading the book very, very much.
